When I found out the mid year show was going to be set in the fifties I was really excited. I was really looking forward to wearing fifties clothes and doing fifties style dances as they are generally very upbeat and fun to perform.
On the day of the Tom Kipper audition I was surprisingly nervous. It was held in the studio with Daniel and Alfie on the panel, but it felt very official. Everyone looked their best and it was fun walking around the studio in my audition clothes and high heels.
Welcome back to another year at DanceArts United. Things are well and truly underway and getting busy for us. In particular there have been numerous changes made during the holidays, with an increase in reception and office space as well as a change to the dressing room spaces. Also we will be welcoming a couple of new teachers, firstly Brent Osborne recently finishing up from an Australian and International touring production of cats who will be stepping into the role of Senior Acrobatics coach, and secondly Joel Gallarde of Triple8Funk who has just migrated to Melbourne from New Zealand who will be taking Senior Hip Hop.
2010 has been a big year in performance for us at DanceArts United and our CURTAINS UP performance is set to be massive. Not only have the students exceeded all our expectations with amazing performance runs in the studio, but the overall attitude within the school has never been better or more enriching.
I would like to make an extra special mention to the parents and students who have sacrificed their time in creating the magnificent costumes you see on the stage. This year, more than any other, the costumes are absolutely phenomenal. I would like to make a special mention of Anne McMillan, Nancy Waqairatu, Irene Taylor, Carmena Attard, Fiona Figliomeni, Naoko Salgadoe, Ellie Prodanovic, Jenny Theologidis, Jacqui Hourigan, Susie Close and Heidi Haifa and all other parents who have made a contribution. You have all done an unbelievable job and we as a school can not thank you enough.
For all of those interested in booking a place into our annual Holiday Workshop please make sure to express your interest by this coming Sunday December 5.
The Holiday Workshop is designed specifically as an opportunity for dancers aged between 3 – 18 years to try out the various styles of dance we have on offer here at DanceArts United and specifically for this year’s workshop, we are excited to announce that we will have a number of the cast members of the dance show IGNITE THE DARK and the international touring production of CATS the musical to teach some specialised classes. This is a wonderful opportunity for all students to learn from industry professionals and should not be missed.
